Mission and Core Values
The Mission of Sovereign Grace Church is...
"to bring about the obedience of faith in all nations for the sake of His name." Romans 1:5
It is truly our desire to see men and women in every nation, tribe, and tongue come to saving faith in Christ. We desire to help them grow in their faith and to carry out Christ's mission to seek and save those who are lost. The chief end of all of our efforts in this regard is the glory of Christ.
We attempt to clarify and accomplish our mission through 3 pathways:
1. Delight in Christ.
2. Develop in our maturity in Christ.
3. Declare Christ.
Core Values
God-Exalting Ministry – We believe God does what He pleases (Psalm 115:3, 135:6) and that He is pleased to exalt Himself in all things (Isaiah 48:9-11). As His people, we seek to exalt Him in all that we do (Psalm 115:1), particularly in our worship. We believe that God not only requires us to worship Him (Luke 4:8), but also provides regulations for how we should worship Him (Deuteronomy 12:32). We believe God commands the church to worship Him through expositional preaching of the Word (2 Timothy 4:1,2), prayer (1 Timothy 2:1-3), doctrinally sound and culturally appropriate music (Colossians 3:16,17), and the administration of the ordinances (Matthew 28:18-20, Corinthians 11:23-29).
Christ-Centered Ministry – We believe our new life is a result of our union with Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1, 2, 12-21), the only Mediator between God and Man (1 Timothy 2:5). We believe that all things were created through Jesus, for Jesus, and therefore are about Jesus (Colossians 1:15-20). Thus, the person and work of Jesus are central to all that we do as a church (1 Corinthians 15:3,4). We believe that the good news of Jesus must be faithfully proclaimed both to those who do not believe (that they might come to believe) and to those who do believe (that they might grow still more in their delight of God).
Spirit Dependent Ministry – We believe the Spirit of God is the only effectual minister (1 Corinthians 2:12-16) and that we are completely dependent upon Him to bear any fruit in ministry (2 Corinthians 4:3-7). Therefore, we will continually employ the means He provides for effective ministry: continual prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and proclamation of the Word (2 Timothy 4:1,2).
Bible Saturated Ministry – We believe God’s Word is both authoritative and sufficient for all of life and doctrine (2 Timothy 3:16,17). We believe it needs to be taught systematically and faithfully (2 Timothy 4:1,2). We believe we have nothing else to offer people that can bring about real life change, outside of His Word (Hebrews 4:12,13). Therefore, we believe all areas of ministry need to be saturated by the Word of God.
Disciple Equipping Ministry – We believe all of Christ’s disciples are called to be ministers of the gospel. We believe that God has uniquely gifted and empowered each Christian for service (1 Corinthians 12) and that it is the task of the leaders in the church to equip each member for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:11,12). As each member does its part, the church is built up to maturity, grows in holiness, and the great commission is carried out (Ephesians 4:13-16).
Male Led Ministry – We believe the task of leadership in the church and the home has been given to men (2 Timothy 2:2, 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, Ephesians 5:22-6:4). We believe that men must be trained to be godly elders, deacons, husbands, and fathers. Our passion for training men is due to our love and appreciation for the God designed gender roles clearly taught in Scripture.
Mission Focused Ministry – We believe it is the church’s responsibility to train and send missionaries to plant churches among unengaged and unreached people groups. (Matthew 28:18-20; Romans 15:20; 2 Timothy 2:2). We also believe our church should always be praying for, encouraging, and equipping church leaders in under-resourced, under-equipped and persecuted churches (Matthew 9:38; James 2:15,16). We believe our church should be involved in local church planting, evangelism (Romans 10:5-21) and mercy ministries (Luke 12:33, 14:13; James 1:27).
